Deliver success, not dream it
Aspiration drives actions, but too often organisations dream big without having properly assessed what it takes. The result is often a mix of disengaged staff, disappointed supporters and adding strength to the ‘I told you so’ antis and cynics.
Instead, focus first on what everyone buys into; get the basics right. This will help to build confidence internally and externally. Then, push the boundaries, but only so far as they are guaranteed to succeed. There is nothing like winning a series of small but tangible battles that help to rally people, providing the oomph to tackle ever greater challenges.
‘Death or glory’ seldom leads to glory, but more often kills the agenda.
